I work in the advertising industry. All too often when researching stock photos I run into such “perfect” photography. The subject is polished, pristine, and generally just perfect beyond reality. The subjects become so perfected in the studio that they become almost lost and unrealistic, sometimes far from actually representing what it is. For example while searching for a “Maine blueberries” photo at a stock photography website I was finding photos of such perfectly sculpted blueberries they almost looked plastic. I don’t know about you, but when I think about natural Maine blueberries I want the real thing.

This is a photograph I took at the local Deering Oaks Park Farmers’ Market. As you can see there are still a bit of stems attached and some of the blueberries are dented. This shot is the real deal and strikes the emotion as such. The feel of this photograph is more defined as a candid shot. It’s real and what one would expect to find when looking to find delicious, natural real Maine blueberries. Believe me, these blueberries are just as tasty as they look!

Description: “My name is Eric Rowe, and I’m a singer/songwriter from the Washington DC area. I play an emotional mix of vocals and acoustic guitar, inflected with a few noisy shards of my goth-industrial background. I write a lot of my own material, but I also enjoy ‘reinterpreting’ (or ‘mangling’) the classics.”

My Comments: I highly recommend taking a moment to listen to e.a.rowe. What seems to me like new recycled artists popping up every five seconds these days it is so refreshing to finally discover and hear something new. The music of e.a.rowe packages a unique style of sound creating a distinct identity, feel and emotion. With influences of folk, gothic and electronica the music from e.a.rowe is definitely worth the listen.

Well I figured it's about time I'd begin posting some other types of creative material for you to enjoy. So here they are - a free set of five ringtone music loops.

Well I figured it’s about time I should begin posting some other types of creative material for you to enjoy. So here they are – a set of 5 ringtone music loops. These 5 music loops can be downloaded and used as your next ringtone, within you next creative project, or a loop sequence in your new mix. Download, enjoy, share.

This is just a fun little melody loop that becomes rather addictive after you hear it. (Don’t say I didn’t warn you!)

To preview the audio click the file name then the play button.
To download the MP3 right-click file name and save target as.

01 ericrowe.com ringtone001 alternative

02 ericrowe.com ringtone001 ambient

03 ericrowe.com ringtone001 techno

04 ericrowe.com ringtone001 country

05 ericrowe.com ringtone001 glitch

For those of you that are still with me, here is a short summary on how these 5 ringtone music loops were created. I used Reason and set the sequence to a 16 step pattern at 4/4. The construct is essentially a Combinator with a NN-XT sampler and Malström wired together. These were then patched into the matrix for the creation of a fun little pattern melody. Redrum was used for the drum pattern.

The five loops are all based off the same melody I came up with- each with a different twist of flavour.

Now go run and tell all your friends to download these, spread the love and enjoy!

This photograph was taken at Silly’s located in downtown Portland, Maine. The contrast of the yellow and red painted on the aged wood found within the composition was really unusual and caught my attention. Now the challenge was to capture it.

What makes this photograph work is not only the colour but the contrast of the dark vertical lines between the wooden boards the nail holes and the texture of the wood. It leads the eye to explore about.

A simple painted wooden fence, now captured for all to enjoy.

Slowly pulsing its way through the deep water, this ethereal creature paused above me for a moment long enough to be photographed. While on a visit to the New England Aquarium in Boston, this graceful jellyfish effortlessly caught my eye. Its colour, contrast, and composition just screamed “take my photo”. Unfortunately the elements were against me; low lighting, screaming kids, crowds of people, digital camera, a moving subject.

This was a very difficult shot for me but I feel I pretty much pulled it off. Armed with my trusty digital camera in a practically dark room, 2 inches of thick glass separated myself and the jellyfish. A few quick adjustments to the camera settings and away goes the shutter. Honestly, out of 6 or so shots of this jellyfish I was finally able to capture the moment- a slow moving, graceful, almost angelic form of beauty.

About 20 minutes outside of Portland, Maine I have discovered a desert. I am serious. It’s called the Desert of Maine located in the little L.L. Bean town of Freeport. Who knew?

Here I found 300 huge open acres of sand, blazing hot temperatures at 120 degrees (yes really), complete with a sandstorm that gets into your camera equipment, mouth and eyes. It even has a gift shop. The Desert of Maine really is a unique place to visit for a nice change of pace and well worth the stop.

For this landscape photograph I added a dark vignette which I felt worked well to the already aged, dry feel to the photograph’s composition. I really tried to maintain the stark contrast between the sky, treeline and sand while also being careful not to blow out the sand with too much exposure. I feel I accomplished my goal in this piece but am still practicing on my general landscape composition work that still seems a bit ordinary.

The seed pods in this lush green moss bed seem to vibrate throughout the photograph. I can imagine myself being this tiny, walking among the endless landscape of thick emerald trees and towering pods. I like the colour in this photograph. No post processing has been used.

If there is one thing that the Maine coast has in abundance it’s rocky ocean cliffs. Here is an attempt to capture these cliffs, namely the variety of textures they have to offer.

Being my own worse critique I am not fully satisfied with this shot. Although I do feel that the textures were captured the composition of this “landscape” is lacking. I require a bit more practice and patience for these types of shots. As always I am attracted to “macro” and felt that these cliffs offered a similar quality in texture.
